lettuce be friends

I had to share this recent revelation from my friend Angela’s Blog :
MY YEAR WITHOUT SPENDING

Lettuce has a way of going bad before you can get through an entire head, right?

Well, Angela just posted this partial head of lettuce that is
over a month old and still healthy and edible!!

Photobucket

Simply by adding a little water at the bottom of the plastic bag
where the root of the lettuce sits… It’s alive! It’s ALIIIIIIVE!!

Long live heads of lettuce!

Thanks for the tip, Ang!

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
Too bad another movie was made without a script!
What a shame to waste all those costumes, sets and the realistic child behavior portrayal.
FAIL!

Photobucket
THIS IS IT
I cried the first 5 minutes.
Michael’s dancing is liquid in motion.
The production was groundbreaking.
A shame the show did not go on.
√ steph approved!

WILD THINGS (or childhood ISN'T roses and kittens)

Photobucket
Friends and articles have warned against seeing WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.

“Depressing.” “Angry.” “Don’t See It!”

Of course, I love depressing, dark, sad and perhaps…realistic?

I think adult perceptions of childhood being a sunny field of daisies, smiles and kisses is projection, forgetfulness and wishful thinking.
Adults make 100% of media that “represents” childhood.

For me childhood was a confusing, powerless struggle of just wanting to grow up.
Kids are hard core MEAN to each other.
Lots of parents suck.
There are many dangers and much confliction.
Children are at the whim of the adult world.
Some kids are loved to bits while others’ parents put out cigarettes on their skin.
(Sorry for that mental image…but that’s reality, folks.)
And those two kids must coexist, sometimes at the same school.

I’m hitting up a matinee of the film today.
Review to come later………..

Head Warmer & LBC heels

Photobucket

I am in love with this head warmer thing I bought at the Girl’s Night Out.
So cute. Wraps around with two buttons at back.

Photobucket

I doubt it’s supposed to be used as a neck warmer, but it works that way, too.

Photobucket

I can’t wear wool (itchy! itchy! get it off!), which makes finding cute, warm winter wear difficult.
This is so perfect for the Dallas winter climate.
It’s also…100% Acrylic.

Also thought I’d showcase the cute heels I got at the Buffalo Exchange in Long Beach a few weeks ago. $14!

Oh and the lipstick is the free Neutrogena I got in my swag bag.
Never would have bought that shade on my own.
Poppy Red.
The lipstick is REALLY moisturizing and doesn’t cake, clump or get sticky.
Next time I need lipstick I will buy that brand.
Way to go goodie bag!

off to the Old Monk for a sunny Sunday outdoor brunch.
They have the best breakfast in town! The gravy is outta sight!!
3 eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit, biscuit and gravy = $6.50. WTF?!
mmmmmm gravy.

swaaag from Girls Night Out

Yesterday I went to an event called Girl’s Night Out.
A bunch of vendors set up wares, Midori and Skyy give out free cocktails and then there is the “famous Shecky’s goodie bag!”

Photobucket
My swag includes : Noxema razor, romance novel, body shop samples, Lindt chocolate bars, hair conditioner, Neutrogena lipstick, La Croix drink, Veggie Stix, Goody hair bands, Kotex samples, Arm & Hammer toothpaste, Wisp sample, eye drops, Alka Selzer hangover cure, Jergens lotion and some glue on nails. haha.

I got my ticket online for $12.50.
The price of entry was beyond covered by the contents of the goodie bag.
Most of the stuff I will actually use.
Hooray!

Plus, I bought one really cute head/neck warmer I am sure to be sporting all winter.

This is It!

Tonight I am going to the 11pm opening of THIS IS IT! at the Inwood Theater.
I am hoping to see some thriller jackets and sparkly gloves!!

Super excited to see this film.
“It’s only in theaters for 2 weeks,” so if you want to see it on the big screen……..

I have had two encounters with MJ in my life.
In NYC I was a PA on a shoot for some Arabian (I think) tv thing.
When Michael arrived on set - truly, the king had rolled in.
Everyone went nuts.
It settled down, the kids asked some questions, then he opened a bag with Michael merch to give out and the little vultures fed!
They excitedly ran over to their parents on the sidelines with their bounty and the parents yelled : go back! get more! get him to sign! etc.

The other encounter was a documentary I edited about his fans at his last trial.
This was less of a direct-contact situation, but I got to see a really unique view of his fans and a perspective of the trial not shown in mass media.
Cutting that documentary led me to question his assumed guilt.
I am on the fence about his innocence, but if forced to choose sides - I would say he has not molested any children.
hmmmmm.

L.Y.M.I.

One of my oldest friends, Lydia, is in Belgium for a year
with her boyfriend while he completes an architecture fellowship.
Going to such a far away place is exciting,
but one can also get homesick and lonely.

So! I gave her a parcel of flat, tiny packages (easy for travel)
with the instruction to open one when she needs inspiration or a reminder of home.

Each mini-package is wrapped differently and contains a random item :
note, memory, recipe, quote, photo, trinket, etc.

She made a blog so we could share the experience as she opens them.
It’s called LYMI.

Below is a slideshow of some of the packages she’s opened, so far,
and what came out of each one.
In-depth detail for each story on the blog.
All photos were taken by Lydia in Belgium.
